October Dedication Set for New Veterans’ Memorials

Honor Roll Park

Three new veterans’ memorials are being constructed in Honor Roll Park.

The city will dedicate three new memorials honoring veterans from World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars on October 14.

Mayor Michael McGlynn said the ceremony will be similar to one the two years ago marking the creation of Honor Roll Park, complete with an enormous American flag that requires a crane to lift and a military band.

The city is also planning a parade or other community event to mark the occasion.

Project Manager Jack Buckley said the construction of the three memorials is going well and is on schedule.  Trees have been relocated, concrete poured, and the first piece of granite for the WWII memorial is in place.

Construction of the memorials will cost $500,000.  The City Council approved $295,000 for the project and the Mayor recently held a golf tournament that raised $20,000.
