Debris on 93 South Damages Cars Saturday Night

Route 93 South bridge over Route 28

A car drives underneath Route 93 South on Route 28 Sunday afternoon.  Ten cars blew their tires out late Saturday night after driving over debris on the overpass.

Several cars were damaged Saturday night on a Route 93 South overpass from debris on the road on the Medford/Stoneham line.

According to State Police, ten cars got flat tires after driving over the debris around midnight.  The Mass Highway Department responded and did a hot patch job through the expansion joint of the overpass.

It is not clear if the debris came from the expansion joint, and the incident remains under investigation.

The Federal Highway Department’s National Bridge Inventory gave this bridge, which intersects Route 28 and was built in 1959, an 83% sufficiency rating and listed it in good condition, according to nationalbridges.com
