Merry Christmas, Medford!

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

New York City’s famed Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. The solar-electric powered tree has a local connection- its power system was created by technology from Solectria Renewables, LLC of Lawrence, Massachusetts, which is headed by Arlington High School and MIT graduate James Worden. The “green” tree’s 30,000 LED lights will be illuminated for 42 days during the holiday season. Says New York Mayor and Medford native Michael Bloomberg: “The tree at Rockefeller center is one of New York City’s most beloved and iconic landmarks, the 500,000 New Yorkers and tourists that visit the tree each day can dream of a ‘green’ Christmas.” Photo by Mehmet Irdel of Solectria Renewables.
