A public meeting on the Green Line extension to Medford and Somerville is scheduled for Wednesday, February 27, at 6:30PM at the Century Bank Community Room at Century Bank’s 400 Mystic Avenue branch in Medford. The meeting will cover general information about the project and is a chance for the public to meet with the Project Team, ask questions, and receive an update on the status of planning process for the project.

The Project Advisory Group will hold it regular monthly meeting on Monday, March 3, from 4PM-6PM at the library at Somerville High School, 81 Highland Avenue, Somerville. Items up for discussion include an update on the project from the state transportation office, a summary of potential station locations, and the next steps for the project. There will also be twenty minutes set aside for public comment.

The group, composed of local residents and public officials from Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford, has been meeting regularly to hammer out some of the details of the project. Medford’s members are City Councilor Fred Dello Russo, William Wood of the Green Line Advisory Group for Medford, Ken Krause of the Medford Green Line Neighborhood Alliance, and Rita Donnelly, an abutter to the Green Line.

In other Green Line extension news, State Representative Carl Sciortino announced today that funding for the project has moved forward in the state legislature.

Sciortino said he moved the bill out of the Transportation Committee with a favorable report, which means state money for the project is one step closer to being approved. Though the state is seeking federal money, including full funding in the state’s transportation bond bill for the project ensures it won’t be delayed while awaiting federal funds, according to Rep. Sciortino.

“The green line extension has been talked about for decades, and we are finally seeing real action. Today brings us one step closer to efficient, affordable, environmentally sound public transportation in Somerville and Medford, and I am proud to help bring this long overdue project closer to completion,” said Rep. Sciortino in a statement.
