2008 Disabilty Awards Recognize Those Who Have Helped Individuals with Disabilities

The Medford Commission for Persons with Disabilities will hand out their 2008 Disability Awareness Awards Thursday afternoon in a ceremony at City Hall.

This year’s recipients are School Committee member Alfred Pompeo and development and investment firm National Development.

Medford Human Diversity Director Diane Mcleod said the awards, which began in 2000, are to “recognize individuals, agencies, programs and/or businesses in Medford that consistently strive for equality and independence for people with disabilities. The support provided could include accessibility to employment, public accommodations, housing, etc,” said Mcleod.

Pompeo, 90, is a former school teacher, POW, and father of eight whose sixty years of public service include stints as mayor and a member of the School Committee.

National Development is a Newton-based firm that is behind the Station Landing development in Medford.
