Governor Campaigns for Medford Rep Sciortino

State Representative Carl Sciortino and Governor Deval Patrick

Governor Deval Patrick hit the campaign trail at Somerville’s Sabur restaurant in support of State Representative Carl Sciortino (D-Medford, Somerville) on Tuesday night. The governor praised Rep. Sciortino for his commitment to “working people, fairness, and economic opportunity” and said his “kindness and thoughtfulness” helps him understand how policy impacts people. Campaign officials say 200 people attended the event, including State Senator Patricia Jehlen (D-Somerville, Medford), State Representative Paul Donato (D-Medford), and Medford School Committee members Paulette Van der Kloot and Ann Marie Cugno. Rep. Sciortino, who is being challenged by Somerville Alderman Bob Trane, is waging a sticker campaign for his third term, as he failed to collect enough signatures to get on the ballot because, according to the state rep, his nomination papers were stolen.
