After a two-year break followed by a two-year rebuilding period, Medford’s Andre Chiefs made the playoffs this summer for the forty-fourth time in forty-six seasons.

The team finished fourth in the Intercity League with a 17-8-6 record, compared to seventh in the league with a 9-18-5 record last season.

The Chiefs’ playoff run started and ended this weekend with two losses to league-leader Lexington Blue Sox. The Chiefs put up a respectable showing against the formidable Sox but fell 2-1 and 4-2 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

The Chiefs clinched a spot in the playoffs on last Saturday night in Woburn with a decisive 6-3 win over the Moody Dental Tanners. The Chiefs were led by veteran pitcher Keith Forbes, who K’d a staggering fourteen batters and allowed just four hits.

Forbes lead the league for strikeouts- 95- and innings pitched- 65.1- for the season.

Offensively the Chiefs were led by the hot bats of Justin Crisafulli, second in the league at .407, and Matt Lawlor, fourth in the league at .381.

The Chiefs joined four other teams with records above .500 in the playoffs this weekend – the Sox, Cassell Club, Testa Corp. Bombers, and Wakefield Merchants.

Due to so many rained out games this season (more than sixty), the playoffs were shortened to the best two out of three series.

The Lexington Blue Sox and Cassell Club advanced to the finals.
