The Medford High School Varsity Cheerleading team capped off undefeated fall and winter seasons with a national title this year, their third in just six years and their fourth overall.

The girls also won their second state title- the first ever in the fall season.

The last time MHS cheerleaders were both state and national champions in the same year was 1998, and the team could not be more excited or the coaches more proud.

The Lady Mustangs received championship rings in a special ceremony at City Hall with Mayor Michael McGlynn on Wednesday.

According to Program Director Lisa Evangelista, the rings were paid in part by donations and in part by parents, who really wanted the girls to have special rings commemorating their accomplishment.

Generous donors include Medford Fire Local 1032, Medford School Committee member Fred Pompeo, City Councilor Robert Penta, Ben Averbook of Medford Saving Lives, Sean O’Brien of Teamsters Local 25, Ron DeFronzo of Cincotti Funeral Home, Attorney Howard L. Greenspan, State Representative Paul Donato, Warren Ramirez, Andrea Bates of Bates Insurance Agency, Attorney Robert Abruzese, School Committee member Lena DiGiantommaso, and Ken Munsi of the Sandy Burr Country Club.

The Medford Mustang Nationals Championship team includes: Captain Paige McGlynn (attending UMass Amherst this fall), Captain Janelle DeSanto (UMass Amherst), Captain Brittany Medeiros (UConn), Jordan Joyce (UMass Boston), Courtney Hayes (UMass Amherst), Lindsy Somers (Bunker Hill Community College), Jenn O’Brien (UMass Amherst), Gianna Aliberti (Boston University), Courtney Galvin, Lisa Cardone, Christina Cardone, Anne Raimo, Kasey Cloutier, Lindsey Mills, Darla Vitale, Jessica Albano, Jessica Medeiros, and Krysten Sheppard. They were coached by Julie Brown Santos, Evangelista and Nannette Ciampa.
