Tufts Welcomes the Class of 2012

1,305 new Jumbos and their families will descend upon Medford on Wednesday, August 27, to start their four year journey at Tufts University. Here’s a look at the Tufts class of 2012 by the numbers:

15,641– number of applicants to Tufts, the largest pool in school history
2,017– number of those applicants who applied to the School of Engineering, also a record number
12– percentage of applicants who were accepted to Tufts
43– states the incoming class represents
33– nations the incoming Jumbos are from
27– percentage of domestic students of color
12– percentage of international students
1415– mean SAT score for the incoming class, the highest in school history
749– mean SAT math score for Engineering students, another record
13– students from Medford and Somerville
40– percentage of students receiving financial aid
$13 million– need-based aid awarded to the Class of 2012
46– high school valedictorians
200– captains of at least one sport in high school
11– percentage of students who are the first in their families to attend college
