Medford Man Arrested in Machete Attack

Tenant Allegedly Slashed Landlord with Machete

A Medford man is under arrest for allegedly attacking his landlord with a machete.

Police say Edwin Escobar, 47, of 154 Middlesex Avenue, slashed his senior landlord with a machete while the victim was talking to a plumber working on the home’s boiler on Monday night.  The victim had been speaking to the plumber when Escobar interrupted and asked him if he could use the phone.  Escobar then became upset when the victim told him to wait until he was finished with his conversation and allegedly picked up a machete from a workbench and swung at the victim with it.  The victim’s left hand and forearm were cut.  The plumber managed to get the machete away from Escobar and Escobar left the scene.

Police and Emergency Services were called, and the victim was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Around 11PM Monday night, Escobar was arrested when he returned to the scene of the crime.  Police apprehended Escobar as he tried to leave the house from the back door.  Escobar has been charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon on a person over sixty, as well as larceny over $250 as he had allegedly taken jewelry that belonged to the victim’s wife.
