Better Luck Next Year: Mustangs Fall to Malden, 33-22

Medford Mustang football team at pep rally

Despite a last-minute rally of two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, Medford fell to Malden, 33-22, for the 121st Thanksgiving Day classic.  It’s a disappointing finish to a tough, winless season in which the team endured negative headlines and the removal of its head coach.  Hopefully, a new coach will be hired that can motivate the team and who will create a stable environment in which the team’s talented players (and they do have talent) will thrive.  Above, the football team at Wednesday’s pep rally.

Medford/Malden T-Day Classic by the numbers:

1- points by which Medford lost last year’s game
2- high schools that have an older Thanksgiving football rivalry and years since Medford’s last win
8- longest streak of Medford wins (1913-1920, 1994-2001)
10- ties
40- anticipated temperature for kickoff
54- Medford wins
57- Malden wins
121- Thanksgiving Day games Medford and Malden have played
