Historical Society to Display Rare Civil War Photos

A Civil War photo from the Medford Historical SocietyPhoto Exhibit to Commemorate Lincoln, Obama

Two hundred years after President Abraham Lincoln’s birth, the nation has inaugurated its first African- American president, and the Medford Historical Society will honor this remarkable series of events with Faces of the Civil War, an exhibition of 30 portraits from its collection of original Civil War photographs, the fifth largest of its kind in the world.

The show opens on February 27 at 7PM at the Historical Society’s 10 Governors Avenue location.  The exhibit is the first time that any of the portraits have been shown to the public.

The Historical Society needs to raise $2,100 to make the exhibition happen. Any interested donors should contact Jim Kiely, a member of the Board of Directors, via email at jimkiely1960@aol.com.  There is also a special fundraiser with popular burrito chain Boloco. During the following times Boloco will donate to the event $1 for each burrito it sells: Super Bowl Sunday, February 1 (11am-10pm), Wednesday, February 4 (4-10pm), and Thursday, February 12 (11 am-10pm), which is Lincoln’s birthday.

To take part, all you have to do is order a burrito (or two) in the restaurant’s 340 Boston Avenue location, by phone (339-674-9740) or online at www.Boloco.com. Delivery service is available! All donations go directly to support Of the People: Faces of the Civil War and ensure the exhibition and lecture series remain free to everyone.
