Green Line Station Designs Released

Stations Proposed for College Avenue, Route 16 in Medford

The state Executive Office of Transportation has released preliminary station design plans on the Green Line Extension website.

The design schematics for the stations are laid out in this 26-page document.   Computer renderings of the stations can be viewed here.

According to a fact sheet released in March, the state’s environmental impact report for the Green Line extension should be released sometime during the spring. The report will contain information about project benefits, its expected environmental impact, and will also provide details about the project’s impact on traffic, noise, air quality, and vibrations. The report will be made available online at the project’s website, in local libraries, and on CD upon request.

The public will have an opportunity to comment on the report once it becomes available. After the state Environmental Secretary issues a certificate based upon the report, the project is expected to move forward. The state expects to proceed with subsequent planning, environmental, and project development stages. These include filing an application for funding through the Federal Transit Administration’s New Starts program, beginning preliminary engineering, conducting final environmental reviews, and developing final designs for the project.

Two potential Green Line stations are proposed for Medford. One station is planned for the intersection of College and Boston Avenues, and another for Route 16. The Route 16 stop is contingent upon the receipt of federal funds for the project.
