Medford Baseball State Tourney Run Ends

Mustangs Fall to Acton-Boxborough Thursday Night

The Medford varsity baseball team headed to Acton-Boxborough in the first round of the North Division 1 state tournament and unfortunately came home with a 9-4 loss on Thursday night.

The Mustangs finished the regular season 11-9 (.550) and were the 19th of 22 seeds in their division, just behind Malden Catholic (18th, 12-8). Acton-Boxborough (13-7, .650) is seeded 14th.

Acton-Boxborough nows heads to #3 seed Westford, who has a bye in the first round, on Friday.

Two other Greater Boston League teams qualified for the state tournament.  Everett (14-6, .700) is seeded 11th and faces bottom seed Lowell on Friday.  Cambridge (12-6, .667) has the 12th seed and lost to #20 seed Waltham (11-9, .550), a former GBL team, on Thursday.  Former GBL-er Arlington is seeded 17th and heads to 16th seed Haverhill on Friday after Thursday’s game was postponed due to weather.  Another former GBL team, Peabody (17-5, .773), is seeded 6th and has a bye in the first round.  The winner of the Everett game will head to Peabody.
