Despite some setbacks during the fall season, the Medford High School crew team made a strong showing at the state championships on Sunday in Worcester.

The meet was the first of the season for the team. The Mustangs will close their fall season with a scrimmage against Manchester Central on Thursday, October 29.

Coaches Amy Byron and Jenn Huntley are very proud of the team for their dedication as the team has been practicing hard all season long and hasn’t been able to get out onto the water until recently.

“These kids are amazing. Amazing. Whatever they do at states we’ll be super-proud of them,” said Coach Byron in an interview before Sunday’s race.

The crew team, in its third year, has surged in popularity and has an impressive 47 members, with even more expected to participate in the spring.

The team has received very generous support from Export Towing, Russo Marine, and the vocational school but is still in need of donations and equipment. Anyone interested in helping out the team can contact Coach Byron at abyron@medford.k12.ma.us.
