The Cost of Running for Office in Medford

Ever wonder what running for office costs? Running for office, even local office, can be expensive, with money spent on things such as signs, mailings, stickers, advertising, and fundraiser events. Donations come from local residents, friends, family, and other candidates.

Here’s a look at how much Medford’s candidates for Mayor, School Committee, and City Council have raised and spent in the past few months.  The remaining balances are as of October 26 and do not reflect what might have been spent in the last week of the campaign.

If Ms. Guzik had that much money left over, why did I get an appeal for more money (copied below) two days before the election?

    CONTRIBUTE
As the campaign winds down, the last of the bills come due. We have down very well sticking to a tight budget, but there are a few odds and ends that will still need to be paid.

I am extremely grateful to everyone who has already contributed to the campaign, and to a number of people who have done so more than once! Thank you, thank you, thank you

The remaining balances reflect what the candidates had as of October 26, when they had to file their campaign finance statements. We won’t know what was spent the last week of the campaign until January 20, when the final campaign finance statement is due.
