Coakley Raises Over $4 Million for Campaign

Attorney General, Medford Resident Makes Run for US Senate

Attorney General and US Senate candidate Martha Coakley announced today that her campaign has raised $4.1 million from over 11,800 people.

According to information provided by Coakley’s campaign, 8,000 of those donors contributed $100 or less.

“I am truly humbled by this incredible show of support by all of these contributors as well as the hundreds of volunteers who have given their time to help us bring a different kind of leadership to Washington,” Attorney General Coakley said. “Our next Senator is going to address critical issues for the people of this Commonwealth – from helping to turn our economy around to assuring quality, affordable health care coverage for all Americans. I’ve stood up and gotten real results for the people of Massachusetts as Attorney General, and I’ll do that again as Senator.”

Coakley, the state’s first female Attorney General and the former Middlesex County District Attorney, is running for Senator Ted Kennedy’s former seat. If elected, she would also be the state’s first female US Senator.

Coakley is running against three other Democrats hoping to receive the party’s nomination: Celtics owner Stephen Pagliuca, US Representative Michael Capuano, and City Year founder Alan Khazei.

A Democratic Primary is being held December 8, 2009. The general election for the seat is January 19, 2010.
