School officials broke bread with Medford High School students in the cafeteria during lunch time on Monday.

School Superintendent Roy Belson, Headmaster Dr. Paul Krueger, Elementary Education Director Diane Caldwell (all pictured above eating lunch with students), Food Services Director Jeanne Irwin, and Guidance Director Frank Howard, among other staff, shared lunch with students and discussed the school lunch program.

Superintendent Belson called the discussion “informative and valuable.” He said the administration plans to work with students to “achieve the common goal of the best possible school lunch.”

According to Superintendent Belson, a focus group of students will be convened in December so students can go over menu items and make suggestions. Belson said a similar focus group took place last year.

MHS students had threatened to boycott the school lunch program but Superintendent Belson said it did not appear that any boycott took place.

The school leaders met with students and had lunch during both lunch periods. They sampled different foods, with Superintendent Belson enjoying two separate lunches that included a burger, baked potato puffs, whole grain pizza, fruit, and juice.
