It’s that wonderful time of year again- that’s right, winter odd/even parking time!

The city has sent out a gentle reminder to residents that overnight parking (12AM-7AM) is now limited to the odd side of the street until April 1, 2010:

City of Medford- Notice Regarding Odd/Even Parking

“On-street parking rotates from the even numbered side of the street to the odd numbered side of the street from one year to the next.

The winter parking dates are set in December of each year for the entire winter season. For example, from December 1, 2009 to April 1, 2010 parking is allowed only on the odd numbered side of the street because 2009 is an odd number year. In December of 2010, parking will shift to the even numbered side of the street for the winter.

This regulation applies only to public ways and does not apply to private ways.”

According to the Medford Police website, there is a $10 fine for the first violation of this ordinance.

During snow emergencies, the ordinance is in effect for twenty-four hours a day until the snow emergency is lifted.

The following streets are designated emergency arteries and no parking is allowed on them during snow emergencies:

Boston Avenue, Central Avenue, College Avenue from George Street to Boston Avenue, Forest Street, Fulton Street, George Street, Governors Avenue, Grove Street, Hancock Street, Harvard Avenue, Harvard Street, High Street, Lawrence Road, Main Street, Medford Street, Mystic Avenue from Main Street to Crescent Street, Playstead Road, Riverside Avenue, Salem Street, Spring Street, Washington Street, Webster Street, Willis Avenue and Winthrop Street.

Additionally, residents who have driveways, garages, or other off-street parking facility are not allowed to park on the street for a period of time longer than one hour between 12AM and 7AM during snow emergencies and could face a fine of $15.

The police also had this to say about parking spots “unofficially” reserved by residents who have spent hours shoveling out a spot:

“ALSO (for those who attempt to reserve a public parking spot because they shoveled it) please NOTE: No Public Parking Spaces Are Reserved (unless officially posted). Saving parking spaces is a sensitive subject in any neighborhood, officially no objects can be placed on a city street for whatever reason to reserve a parking spot.”
