Mustang Girls, Boys Hoops Earn Victories Over Everett

Boys Upset Top-Ranked Everett, 54-50

– Allison Goldsberry

Both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams earned close victories over Everett on Friday night.

The last time the varsity boys basketball team met up with #12 Everett, they suffered a 50-38 loss on their home court.

The Mustangs turned that around on Friday night when they headed into enemy territory and came home with a close 54-50 victory over the Crimson Tide. The win was the third in a row for Medford.

Senior captain Andrew White continues to dominate for Medford and he scored a game-high 21 points. Senior guard Kadeem Smith added 14 points.

Medford’s defense was also strong and kept Everett from dominating the game.

“Our defense held strong throughout the game and we were able to pull out the win,” said Coach Anthony Faradie.

The Mustangs appear to be on a roll in the Greater Boston League. For two years a GBL win eluded Medford, and this season the team has secured victories over Somerville, Malden, and Everett. The Mustangs are currently 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the GBL.

Next up for Medford is a game at Somerville on Friday, January 29 at 7PM.

While the boys were in Everett, the girls hosted the Crimson Tide and pulled out a 56-50 victory.

Senior Katie Smith scored 13 points and had 15 rebounds while teammate Tania Holmes added 15 points.

The Lady Mustangs host Revere on Wednesday and Somerville on Friday. Both games are at 7PM.
