Before the Amelia Earhart dam was constructed, several areas of Medford would be underwater after heavy rain. The first two photos above show Hickey Park underwater and the third photo is of Park Street near the Fellsway, which is right next the park. That particular area used to flood pretty badly prior to the dam and modern technology that improved drainage. All the photos are from March 1953, which, with eleven inches of rain, was the rainiest March until now. All photos courtesy Tom Convery.
