Cambridge Victory Follows Waltham Shutout

Following a tough loss to Malden last week, the varsity softball team rebounded with back to back victories over Waltham and Cambridge.

The Mustangs were trailing by two runs after three innings against the Cambridge Falcons on Thursday afternoon before they exploded for eight runs in the fourth en route to a 14-3 victory, according to Head Coach Jack Dempsey.

Junior pitcher Kristina Bove, who had a strong six inning performance, got the win and also contributed three hits and two RBI’s. Junior Kasey Moran continued to produce for the Mustangs, smacking three hits as well as stealing three bases. Senior captain Nicole Lopilato chipped in with three hits and two RBI’s, as did sophomore Jackie Pellechia.

Juniors Sarah Moulton and Sam Rodriquez each had key hits as well as sophomores Emily Welch and Shannon Hussey and freshman Sam Lopilato. Senior pitcher Jess Mortelite closed the game with a perfect final inning.

The Medford nine are now 1-1 in the Greater Boston League and 5-2 overall. Next up for the Lady Mustangs is a challenging Everett team on Tuesday, May 4 at Tufts Park in Medford at 4:00PM.
