The Malden Catholic baseball team handily defeated Arlington High School, 12-8, in the consolation game on Sunday in the seventh annual Holovak and Coughlin Baseball Tournament.

Eight of MC’s twelve runs came in the top of the seventh inning, the last at bat for the Lancers.

Junior captain and Medford resident Paul Yanakopulos went three for four with two triples, a double, and four RBI’s. Senior captain and Medford resident Justin Sencabaugh went four four five with a triple, two doubles, and three RBI’s.

For the weekend tournament, Yanakopulos went seven for eight with six RBI’s while Sencabaugh went six for nine with five RBI’s.

Other Medford residents on the MC team include sophomore Paul Covelle and freshman Jake Porrazzo.

The Lancers, 11-9, were Catholic Conference Champs and Division 1 Champs in 2008 and are coached by Steve Freker.
