Council Passes 2011 Budget

After several weeks of budget meetings and hearings, the Medford City Council unanimously passed the city’s proposed $131,692,056 budget for fiscal year 2011.

The 2011 budget cycle, which begins July 1, includes nearly $900,000 in one-time revenue, with $320,000 from the sale of real estate and $570,000 in free cash being used to balance the budget.

Meanwhile, a 2% hotel/lodging local tax and 0.75% local restaurant tax that the Council approved last August brought in over $300,000, and should continue to bring in more revenue for the city.

Prior to Tuesday’s meeting, the Council met with School Superintendent Roy Belson to discuss the proposed $43,185,000 school budget.
