‘Understanding Islam’ at Grace Episcopal Church

QuranGrace Episcopal Church of Medford has organized three “Understanding Islam” events. All are invited and welcome.

Wednesdays at Grace is excited to welcome Rev. Anne Minton as she leads us for a three-week series on Islam.

Rev. Minton holds a doctorate in history and has had a distinguished career both as a professor and as an inter-faith minister. She has taught at St. Bernard’s Seminary, Weston Jesuit School of Theology and Bunker Hill, and currently teaches courses on the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Osher program at Tufts University. An ordained Episcopal priest, Anne is also a member of the Muslim-Christian dialogue sponsored by the Massachusetts Council of Churches and the Islamic Council of New England. She is also one of the founding members of The Daughters of Abraham, an interfaith women’s book group established to foster deeper understanding and mutual commitment between women of the three major religions born of Abraham’s faith – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Each session is from 6:45-8:00PM. Grace Episcopal Church is located at 160 High Street.

Session One: October 20
This session will explore the roots of Islam and its similarities with Judaism and Christianity, along with an investigation into some of the common stereotypes and misunderstandings about Islam and Muslims.

Session Two: October 27
For this session we will also be joined by Fatma Demibras, who will share her experiences as an observant Muslim woman in the United States. This session will also give the community an opportunity to bring their questions and observations.

Session Three: November 3
The third and final session will focus on unique aspects of Islam and explore what Christians might have to learn from Muslims and Islam. There will also be time for more general discussion about Islam and Islam in America.
