The post-Christmas blizzard has caused a delay in Monday’s trash and recycling pickup, which has been postponed to Tuesday. Waste Management will do Monday’s pickup on Tuesday, and all other pickups this week will remain on schedule.

During the weeks of December 27th and January 3rd Waste Management will be collecting additional holiday recyclable materials such as wrapping paper and boxes that won’t fit into recycling bins.

The schedule will remain the same for blue and green bins and residents are asked to place additional recyclable materials in boxes or containers clearly marked as recycling and to keep it separate from the trash.

The special recycling collection is a one time occurrence. After the week of January 3 extra recyclables can be brought to the recycling area at the City DPW Yard on James Street.

Christmas trees will be picked up curbside the week of January 10th. The trees must be free of ornaments and should not be wrapped in plastic bags.

Residents are also reminded to purchase special overflow bags for excess trash that doesn’t fit in trash bins. The bags can be purchased at the Treasurer’s Office in City Hall, Johnnies Foodmaster or Stop & Shop. Any trash outside the cart will not be collected unless it is in the city overflow bags.
