McGlynn Middle School 8th grader Matthew Beckshaw has been selected along with hundreds of other students across the state to participate in a special service project that is part of Governor Deval Patrick’s inauguration.

Beckshaw was selected by School Superintendent Roy Belson for his strong service ethic and commitment to his school and community.

Beckshaw and the other students will participate in Project 351, a youth service day, on January 8.

“Project 351 is about encouraging the next generation of leaders just like Matthew to give back to our communities,” said Governor Patrick. “The goal is to generate 351 ripples of impact as the young people return to their homes and schools, spreading the spirit of service in Medford and across the Commonwealth.”

According to information released by the Governor’s office, on the morning of January 8 Project 351 participants will join Governor Patrick and Lt. Governor Tim Murray for a Youth Town Hall meeting at Cradles to Crayons in Brighton. The youth ambassadors will then fan out across the Boston-area and join up with leaders in the pro sports community to perform service activities developed in partnership with numerous service and non-profit organizations. After the activities are complete, participants will reunite at Cradles to Crayons for a service celebration.
