Arena to Join City Council Tuesday

Mark Arena will be sworn in as the newest Medford City Councilor on Tuesday.

Arena is set to take the oath of office before the Council’s regularly scheduled 7PM meeting.

Arena, who was the eighth runner up for the seven member City Council in the November 2009 election, will fill in for the remainder of the two year term because City Councilor Stephanie Muccini Burke has resigned her seat to become the city’s budget director.

According to City Clerk Ed Finn, Muccini Burke submitted her official resignation Wednesday morning and Mayor Michael McGlynn has appointed her as Director of Budget and Personnel.

Finn said Arena was sent notification of the possibility of filling the seat and he indicated in writing on Wednesday that he is “eligible and willing to serve.” He will be an active member of the Council for its Tuesday meeting.

Arena will serve as City Councilor until the term expires in January 2012. The next municipal election will take place in November of 2011.

“I am honored at the prospect of serving as a Medford City Councilor. I am ready to serve and look forward to working with my colleagues on the Council on behalf of the citizens of Medford,” said Arena in a statement submitted to InsideMedford.com last month.
