City Council to Look at Crime, Casinos

The Medford City Council will discuss recent criminal activity in the city and will consider supporting the creation of casinos in Massachusetts on Tuesday.

A Committee of the Whole meeting has been scheduled before the Council’s regular meeting to discuss crime and public safety. That meeting will take place at 6:00PM in Room 207 at Medford City Hall.

The Council’s regularly scheduled meeting will take place at 7:00PM in the Council Chambers. Newly appointed Council member Mark Arena has offered a resolution asking his fellow Councilors to consider urging Medford’s state delegation to either sponsor legislation introducing casinos in Massachusetts or to “revisit legislative debate” about the contentious subject. In his resolution Arena said casinos could be introduced “as a means of ultimately restoring the critical need for higher levels of local aid.”

Tuesday’s Council meeting will be broadcast live on Channel 16 starting at 7:00PM.
