Police have arrested a Medford man they say robbed a person at gun point on Monday.

According to police, William Gaunt, 20, allegedly robbed a person he knows at Bellevue Pond in the Middlesex Fells on Monday afternoon. That person called police, who caught up with Gaunt near Central and Grant Avenues. Gaunt fled the scene after being pulled over. After a brief pursuit, Gaunt was stopped by Detective Rooney, Officer Hughes, and Sergeant Fahey near the Route 93 rotary on Route 60. He was quickly apprehended, handcuffed and brought to the Medford Police Station for booking.

Police weren’t able to immediately locate the gun they believe was involved in the robbery, and they used K-9’s to search the area in case he tossed it out the window during the chase. After Gaunt’s arrest, police got a search warrant for a safe that was in the trunk of Gaunt’s car and they found the pistol they say was involved in the robbery. Gaunt is now facing additional charges for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Gaunt was charged with armed robbery and several motor vehicle infractions. He was arraigned on those charges in Somerville District Court on Tuesday.
