Medford High Recognizes Student Leaders

More than 100 students were recognized at Medford High School’s Student Leadership Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 17, in the Caron Theater.

Community Service

The following students were honored for their Excellence in Community Service: (Grade 12) Yuna Farah, James Ferrazzani, Evan Jones, Divya Sahore, and Charles Thrasher IV; (Grade 11) Peter Carbone, Kimberly Ellis, Nicolette Hardy, Jonathan Nkangabwa, and Karishma Patel; (Grade 10) Blake Donnaruma, Winny Kwong Sito, Martha Nkangabwa, Lydia Regan, and Meghan Vanstry; (Grade 9) Andrea DeLucia, Matthew MacDonald, Kathy Nguyen, Ralph Saint Louis, and Ashley Zero.

Student Government Awards

The following were honored with Student Leadership Awards for their role as class officers: (Class of 2011) Robin Carpenter, Marcello Cugno, Gina DiStefano, Mikayla McGoff, David McKillop, Denise Palmacci, Raymond Pedrick, Ariana Roche, and Miranda Smith; (Class of 2012) Daniel Begin, Kathryn Bowler, Daniel Costello, and Rachel Keen; (2013) Christian Healion, Maxwell Kennedy-Reid, Martha Nkangabwa, Lydia Regan, and Kaleigh Smith.

Student Leadership Awards were also presented to Student Council President Madeline Forcier, and to senior members of the MHS Site Council Marcello Cugno and Ariana Roche. Kelsey Buckley and Joshua Brownmiller were also acknowledged for their service over the past year as the “Voice of Medford High,” the announcers of the daily bulletin over the public address system.

Special Award

Jemima Victor received a special award for her work as Designer and Manager of the MHS Mural in “C” Building.

Regional and State Science Fairs

The following students were recognized for their accomplishments in a variety of school, regional, state, and national science fairs:

Erica Budina: 1st Place at MHS/MVTHS Science Fair, 1st Place Region IV Science Fair, 3rd Place at Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair; Micheline M. Mathews Roth Award for Excellence in Research; William K. Richardson Patent Award; and 1st Place Special Award in Biochemistry, US Air Force at the Intel Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles.

Mark Roberto: 1st Place at MHS/MVTHS Science Fair; Honorable Mention at Region IV Science Fair; and Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair Qualification.

Katherine Kulik: 1st Place at MHS/MVTHS Science Fair; and Region IV Science Fair Qualification.

John Bailey: 2nd Place at MHS/MVTHS Science Fair; and Region IV Science Fair Qualification.

Barbara Araya: 3rd Place at MHS/MVTHS Science Fair; and Region IV Science Fair Qualification.

Scholastic Writing Awards

Scholastic Writing Awards were presented to the following students: (Gold Key) Nicole Avella and Leila Walker; (Silver Key) Kylie Baker, Anika Chowdhury, and Renee Gramolini; (Honorable Mention) Barbara Araya, Thomas Calautti, Amy Lam, Kristen McCarthy, Kevin Nguyen, Alexander Nguyen, Evan Nigro, Gaelle Rigaud, Jane Smith, and Isabelle Thibault.

Regional and State Music Competitions

The following students were recognized for their success in regional competitions: (Northeast Senior District Chorus) Gia Greene and Emory Paine; (Northeast Senior District Orchestra) Kylie Baker and Bailey Lee; (Northeast Junior District Chorus) Wiktoria Tamburini; (Northeast Junior District Orchestra) Mark Cangiano.

Scholastic Art Awards

Scholastic Art Awards were presented to the following students: (Gold Key) Thalia Borba, Crystal Chandler, Diana Hien, Allegra Kurtz-Rossi, and Daniel Ridge; (Silver Key) Peter-Joseph DeGiovanni, Dylan Eufrasio, Diana Hien, Allegra Kurtz-Rossi, Winny Kwong Sito, Michelle Nguyen, and Leah Parrino; (Honorable Mention) Catherine DeQuinzio, Anika Chowdhury, Hector Delgado, Dylan Eufrasio, Jordan Harris, Allegra Kurtz-Rossi, Jeannie Nguyen, Leah Parrino, Daniel Ridge, William Russell, and Nadya Voitenok.

Jeannie Nguyen was recognized for her success in the Scholastic Art All-State Program.
