MC Wins Holovak and Coughlin Baseball Tournament

The Malden Catholic varsity baseball team won the annual Holovak and Coughlin tournament for the first time since 2006.

MC defeated Medford, 2-0, on Saturday and Arlington Catholic, 12-3, on Sunday en route to a tourney victory.

Paul Yanakopulos of Medford and Nick Roberto of Wakefield were named co-MVPs of the tournament, according to MC Head Coach Steve Freker. Yanakopulos was 4-8 with four RBI’s, four runs scored, a double, and a triple and Roberto was 4-8 with two RBI’s and five runs scored.

Other Medford natives contributing to MC’s victory include Jake Porrazzo and John McGonagle. Porrazzo started behind the plate against AC while McGonagle stole a base and scored a run.

Yanakopulos was co-MVP of the tourney.
