Medford Soccer Has Successful Spring Season

Medford Soccer had a very successful Spring season, including sending numerous teams to playoff competition.

The GU16-1 Division 1 Mustangs had an unbelievable showing at the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC state playoffs). The Mustangs went 2-1 beating Falmouth 1-0 and Plymouth 3-1 (both teams were undefeated in their respective league play going into MTOCs). The Mustangs fell to North Andover, who scored late in the game on a crazy bounce to beat the Mustangs 1-0 and advance to the Semi-Finals. North Andover ended up winning the entire GU16 Division 1, so there’s slight consolation in knowing the girls were toe-to-toe with the eventual MTOC champion.

Ray Mitrano and I have coached the core of this team for many years and are incredibly proud of them and very happy for their success. They have been an incredible soccer force, going undefeated the past three Spring seasons and in this season, only giving up one goal in seven League games. But more important than their skills on the soccer field and the incredible work ethic they bring to the field, is that this team is made up a terrific group of young ladies with no attitude or drama, who care tremendously about each other and stick together and play the game for each other. The young ladies of GU16-1 should be very proud of their efforts, success and accomplishments. They are a terrific group of young ladies who fought very hard and with much determination all season and throughout the playoffs.

GU16-1 represented Medford and MYSL, as well as themselves and their families, at MTOC with much class and earned the respect of their opponents, the referees and MTOC officials as well. The highlight came from a MTOC Executive who mentioned that this team was the most courteous and nicest group of players he has seen. The Medford Community should be very proud of the young ladies of GU16-1 and their accomplishments.

Congratulations also to all the other Medford Soccer teams who made it to post-season play this Spring.

GU14-1 (Coach Pete Massa) and BU16-1 (Coach Tom Bourne), made it to the Semi-Finals for their Middlesex Youth Soccer League’s MTOC Qualifier game. Congratulations on these huge accomplishments!

BU10-2 (Coach Dennis Franczak), BU14-2 (Coach Peter Bozovic), and GU14-2 (Coach Butch Pierce), fought hard and represented Medford well in the Middlesex Youth Soccer League’s Commissioner’s Cup playoffs. The Commissioner’s Cup tournament is an annual event where top-ranked teams in each division of the Middlesex Youth Soccer League compete for the championship.

BU10-1 (Coach Gerry Panza), GU10-1 (Coach Natalie Miller), BU10-3 (Coach Joseph Chiarenza) and GU12-1 (Coach Ellie Branley) all came so close to the Commissioner’s Cup and just missed placing.

Medford Soccer is very proud of all of our young players in the Medford Soccer program. Medford Soccer wishes to extend a special congratulations to our GU16-1, GU14-1, BU16-1, BU10-2, BU14-2 and GU14-2 soccer teams who represented Medford with great effort, enthusiasm and skill at this year’s MTOC and MYSL Commissioner’s Cup. All teams played very well and the coaches and players represented our city with pride and class.

Congratulations to all of our teams for a great season!
