Community Shows Strong Support for Coach Petrides

Soccer players, parents, alumni, and community members have rallied to the defense of Medford High Boys Soccer Coach Mike Petrides after a controversial decision to not renew his contract became public two weeks ago. Before a packed City Hall chamber Monday night, the Medford School Committee unanimously supported a resolution urging School Superintendent Roy Belson, MHS Headmaster Paul Krueger, and Athletic Director Robert Maloney to meet to discuss the decision to oust the popular coach. The School Committee will also discuss policy for hiring and retaining coaches. Currently, due to state education law, coaching staff decisions remain the responsibility of the school principal. The soccer season begins in just a few short weeks and it’s unclear at this point who will lead the boys soccer team.

Monday’s School Committee meeting will replay on Channel 15 at 7:00PM Wednesday and 11:00AM Saturday and Sunday.
