Medford Man Pleads Guilty to Assault, Stalking Charges

A Medford man pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges that he assaulted his girlfriend in a series of attacks, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today.

Jeffrey Angelesco, 35, of Medford, pleaded guilty today in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (2 counts), assault and battery causing serious bodily injury (2 counts), assault and battery, stalking in violation of a restraining order, stalking, intimidation of a witness, and violation of a restraining order (2 counts). Middlesex Superior Court Judge Leila Kern sentenced the defendant to eight years to eight years and one day in prison with fifteen years probation to run concurrent with his prison sentence.

“This defendant has admitted to repeatedly and viciously attacking a woman he was in a relationship with, leaving her seriously injured and, at one time, unconscious,” District Attorney Leone said. “This defendant’s violent abuse and exercise of power and control continued for over three years, and often occurred in front of her young child. We commend the Lexington Police Department in this case for working with this office to uncover the long and violent history of abuse by this defendant, especially in light of the fact that the defendant made numerous attempts to intimidate the victim into not cooperating with the prosecution. We must all continue to work in every way that we can to facilitate disclosure of abuse in order to prevent domestic violence and to serve and protect victims.”

According to authorities, the defendant and the victim entered into a relationship in 2007. A few months into their relationship, the defendant began abusing the victim emotionally and physically. The defendant soon became controlling and the abuse progressively worsened.

In 2008, the defendant was arrested and subsequently incarcerated as a result of an incidence of abuse that occurred in Burlington, MA.

After the defendant’s release from jail, the abuse to the victim continued. On July 24, 2010, the defendant grabbed the victim and violently slammed her head into the metal door frame of her apartment, causing the victim to fall to the floor unconscious. The impact caused a large dent in the door, which was later viewed by officers. The victim awoke to the defendant standing over her, screaming at her. The defendant then repeatedly kicked the victim while she was lying in a fetal position on the floor. The victim’s young child witnessed the incident and called the police, and the defendant fled the scene before they arrived. The officers observed visible injuries to the victim and damage to the apartment from the attack.

The Lexington Police were able to track the defendant to a taxi cab and placed him under arrest. After that case was pending in the Concord District Court, the defendant repeatedly threatened to harm the victim if she testified against him. The abuse also continued, culminating in March of 2011 when the defendant repeatedly beat the victim over a two-week span of time, causing her to have to be treated at the hospital.

The victim subsequently obtained a restraining order, but the defendant is alleged to have repeatedly violated that order by calling and writing her from jail asking her to not cooperate with the prosecution. Due to these continued attempts to contact the victim, law enforcement was able to uncover the defendant’s intimidation, and took out further charges for Intimidation of a Witness.

The defendant was indicted by a Middlesex grand jury on June 9, 2011. He was arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn on June 15, 2011 where Clerk Magistrate Michael Sullivan ordered him held without bail pending trial.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Suzanne Kontz. The victim witness advocate is Kristin D’Agneli. This case was investigated by the Lexington Police Department.
