Medford to Receive Additional $741,818 in Local Aid

Senator Patricia Jehlen, Representative Paul Donato, Representative Sean Garballey, and Representative Carl Sciortino have announced that Medford will receive an additional $741,818 in local aid because of action taken on the supplemental budget in the end of October. Governor Deval Patrick approved the supplemental budget last week, which distributes $65 million to cities and towns across the Commonwealth.

“These funds will strengthen the financial situation of Medford and allow the community to further invest in local services,” said Senator Patricia Jehlen. “The recession hit local communities hard and many valuable services faced deep budget cuts. As revenues start to recover, we need to reinvest in the services and programs that were slashed over the past few years.”

“Any additional funding in this difficult economy is a help to the city of Medford,” said Representative Paul J. Donato. “I am sure the city will utilize these funds to restore essential services.”

“Restoring local aid to cities and towns across the Commonwealth has always been one of my top priorities,” said Representative Sean Garballey. “I am pleased that the city will receive additional local aid for the critical services for the people of Medford.”

“For a number of years now local aid has been cut as the budget was tightened,” added Representative Carl Sciortino. “With financial aid to the city, Medford will be able to provide for residents this winter, support our schools, and pay for public safety needs. Every penny counts and I am excited that the city will receive this vital restoration of funding.”

This additional local aid was distributed to municipalities on Monday, October 31, 2011.
