Boys Hockey Team Opens State Tourney with Win

The boys varsity hockey team opened up the first round of the state tournament with a win over GBL rival Everett on Wednesday night.

The Mustangs blanked the Crimson Tide 3-0.

Medford, now 9-12, is seeded last out of fourteen teams in North Division 1 while Everett, 13-5-2, was the third seed.

Medford will play either Chelmsford (#6, 12-6-2) or Arlington Catholic (#11, 10-7-4) on March 3 in the quarter finals. Chelmsford and AC play Thursday, March 1.

In other hockey news, Malden Catholic (#1, 15-1-4) kicks off its Super Eight competition on March 4 against St. John’s of Shrewsbury (#8, 15-4-3). They will also face BC High and Hingham. All games are at Merrimack College.
