Mustang Baseball Tops Everett, 9-6

The boys varsity baseball team earned an important GBL victory over Everett at home on Monday afternoon.

The game was tied 1-1 early on until a three-run homer blasted by an Everett player. Medford didn’t give up, battling back to 5-4 and eventually 9-4 before the final score of 9-6. The Mustangs kept their focus after one of their top hitters, sophomore Dave Center, was hit by a pitch in the head and was taken out of the game.

Center led the offense with two doubles and two RBI’s. Junior captain John Lavoie was 2-3 with two runs scored while senior captain Mike Pizzi was 2-4 with two RBI’s.

Cory Devlin held steady on the mound for the Mustangs, pitching a complete game.

Monday’s win over Everett leaves the Mustangs in the hunt for the GBL title. Medford hosts Somerville on Thursday at 4PM. Next week Medford hosts Cambridge on Tuesday and heads to Everett on Thursday to wrap up their league schedule.
