MC Baseball Tops Medford, 6-3

Story Updated 11:11AM Monday, May 28, 2012

It’s always interesting when the Medford High School and Malden Catholic baseball teams face each other in the annual Holovak and Coughlin Tournament. It’s usually a close game, and this year was no different. MC was up two runs before Medford responded with three. MC tied up the game and took it into extra innings, winning 6-3 after nine.

John Lavoie pitched into the eighth inning for Medford, with Corey Devlin coming in for relief. Joe Velozo took MC through seven innings before Paul Covelle took over on the mound.

MC, the reigning tourney champ, went on to defeat Arlington Catholic 10-0 on Sunday and earn another Holovak trophy. Medford lost to Arlington 3-2.
