Carpentry Students Win Contest

Medford Voke Tech Carpentry Students

Cabinet-Making/Carpentry students from the Medford Vocational Technical High School won a contest sponsored by The Furniture Trust. The “Excellence in Recycling through Creative Carpentry” contest challenges students to produce something innovative from used furniture.

The students transformed old, damaged furniture made out of particle board into something new and different. Students designed, constructed, and painted a dining room set and baker’s rack that were recognized as the “Most unique and creative product produced.”

This is the second straight year Joe Grinley’s students have won this contest. Last year’s $1,000 prize was used to purchase a new sander for the shop.

Students involved were Carpentry students Brendan Baker, Christopher Contardo, Colin Dobson, Jerell Fick-Souza, Michael Kelley, Jordan Machado, and Joseph Marckini and HVAC student Jacquelyn Smock, according to Grinley.
