Historical Society Honors Convery with Top Award

Tom Convery

Long-time Medford resident Tom Convery was honored with a very special award by the Medford Historical Society on Friday. The Dr. Edward T. Gilligan Memorial Award recognizes an individual “for conscientious dedication to the Medford Historical Society and the Community of Medford,” and is an honor last bestowed upon Dr. Joseph Valeriani in 1979.

Convery, a former veteran and teacher, has been a fixture in the schools and business community. His countless acts of community service include authoring six books that have collectively raised $37,000 for charity. A Citizen of the Year in 1976, he also founded the M-Club at Medford High for varsity student athletes, and recently was active in producing an oral history project that included interviews with nearly 100 local World War II veterans.

“I love what I do; I’m involved. I love Medford,” said Convery.
