Local volunteers continue to monitor river herring (Blueback and Alewife herring) at the Mystic Lakes, having observed over 21,000 herring and 1,650 American eels as of June 12, according to the Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA). In April, MyRWA launched a herring monitoring program to count river herring at the newly renovated Upper Mystic Lake Dam in Medford. The dam has a new fish ladder that allows for easier access for herring between the Upper and Lower Mystic Lakes. Courtesy photo.
