Lady Mustang Wins GBL Golf Championship

Medford High School senior Maxine Harney has become the first female to win the Greater Boston League Golf Championship in the twelve year history of the tournament.

Maxine had a “stellar” score of 78, beating the nearest competitor by six shots, according to Head Coach Ray Dyer.

“The tournament, held at Indian Ridge Country Club, is a tough test for anyone but Maxine was phenomenal,” said Coach Dyer. “She competes day in and day out against both girls and boys and I can not think of a harder working student athlete than her. Congratulations, Maxine!”

Golf runs in Harney’s family, with both her father and grandfather well-known and accomplished in the sport, according to a story published in the Boston Globe Tuesday.

Harney’s team is 7-0 in the GBL and 8-1 overall, said Dyer. The Mustangs are on the road against Cambridge, Somerville, and Malden Catholic to finish up the season.
