I’m Voting for Obama and Warren

– Maxim Weinstein

Medford residents have two important choices to make at the voting booth on November 6. I will be choosing to re-elect President Obama and to elect Elizabeth Warren to the U.S. Senate.

There has been a lot of inaccurate and deceptive information spread about both candidates during the past several months. The last few days before Election Day will undoubtedly expose us to even more attack ads and dubious claims. In the end, though, it comes down to a choice between people with fundamentally different values and beliefs about how the country should be run.

It’s a choice about whether the federal government should decide who can marry whom, as Scott Brown and Mitt Romney believe. It’s a choice about whether there should be new rules, like those fought for by Elizabeth
Warren and President Obama, to prevent big banks from harming consumers in the name of profits. It’s a choice about whether your employer should decide whether your health insurance covers birth control and family planning services, as Mitt Romney and Scott Brown advocate.

This isn’t a choice between capitalists and socialists, or between those who will destroy the middle class and those who will protect it. It is, however, a choice between people with very different ideas about the role of government in protecting and improving our lives as residents of Medford, of Massachusetts, and of the United States. I choose President Obama and Elizabeth Warren because their ideas make sense.
