Lady Mustangs Reach Hockey Milestones

– Allison Goldsberry

Two Medford High School girls ice hockey players have both reached milestones in their respective careers.

Junior Brittani Lanzilli and senior Sam LoPilato each racked up an impressive amount of goals and assists.

During the season opener last Wednesday, Lanzilli notched her 200th career point after scoring two goals and recording two assists during Medford’s 4-4 tie with Winthrop.

Coach Dave McCarthy said it was “quite an accomplishment.”

The talented Lanzilli actually notched her 100th career point as a freshman in 2011.

LoPilato nabbed both a goal and an assist during the Winthrop game, and was just one point shy heading into Saturday’s contest against Marblehead in reaching the “Century Mark.” According to Coach McCarthy, LoPilato scored just one minute into the second period and then scored two more goals to pull off a “hat trick” in Medford’s 6-2 victory over Marblehead.

Coach McCarthy expressed his congratulations for both girls.

The Mustangs are home on Wednesday and Saturday against Cambridge and Masconomet, respectively.
