Voke, Rotary Collaborate on Annual Food Drive

Once again I have had the privilege of working with the students of the Medford Vocational Technical High School on the annual Voke Food Drive.

This year, the students and staff contributed nearly 2,500 food items to the Rotary Club of Medford project that helped fill 165 boxes of food.

The highlight of this endeavor is always “delivery day” when we take a group of students to a warehouse in Malden to work side by side with volunteers from the Rotary Club to pack the food baskets with not only our donations, but numerous other items that have been sent from others. When filled, each basket weighs in at over 40 pounds! The students then assist with loading the vehicles from each charitable group as they drive up to collect their packages.

Watching and working with these dedicated students causes one to pause, and then the reality sets in; if these students represent the future, the world is going to be just fine.

I would once again like to thank all of the students, faculty, and staff that contributed this year, with a special shout-out to the high school groups that also participated.
