Medford Winter Farmers Market Open Every Thursday in January, February

Fresh pasts and homemade sauces from Valicenti Organico are among the many delicious, locally produced offerings of the Medford Winter Farmers Market.

The Medford Farmers Market proudly invites everyone to continue shopping for local fresh food in 2013—every Thursday in January and February at Hyatt Place in Medford Square.

In addition to being open this winter, shoppers who pay with EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card for SNAP can use their card at the Medford Winter Farmers Market. Just present your card at the Manager Table to receive up to $20 in matching “Market Bucks”. The program is simple to use. The manager swipes the EBT card, asks how much the person wants to deduct, and gives them “Market Bucks” to redeem from the vendors for fresh food.  The market is proud to be offering a matching program up to $20 again this season with a grant from Medford Health Matters, supported by Mt. Auburn Hospital. This means that if a shopper who pays with their EBT card chooses to spend $10 off their EBT card, they will receive $20 to spend at the market, and if they spend $20 off their EBT card, they receive a total of $40 to spend at the market on that day!

This video on the Made In Medford website explains the program further.

“We are excited to be able to offer the EBT matching program during the long winter months,” said Market Manager, and Medford resident, Stacey Nussbaum.

Syrah McGivern, Community Transformation Coordinator and part of the Board of Health’s Team Medford who supports the market stated, “We feel it is important to offer fresh foods throughout the year and doubling the value deducted off EBT cards helps make healthy foods available to everyone in our community.”

The winter market is conveniently located in the Hyatt Place hotel in Medford Square, just across the street from the site of the summer Farmers Market. The Medford Winter Farmers Market will be running every Thursday through February 28th from 3-7pm.  The winter market will be held in the underground parking garage of the Hyatt Place, 116 Riverside Ave., Medford Square.

The winter market features many new vendors, selling products not previously available at the summer market like fish and lobster, chowder, and nuts.  And of course, there will be the market staples brought by some of the summer season vendors as well as many new vendors.  Available by popular demand will be four produce vendors with squash, potatoes, lettuce, beets, carrots and many more fresh vegetables, organic meats, grains, eggs, coffee, cheeses, breads, soups, baked goods and treats, and wine.
