Council to Hold Special Meeting Thursday

– Allison Goldsberry

The Medford City Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday night to handle the agenda from their regular meeting on Tuesday, which ended after the Council failed to select its leadership, according to published reports.

According to Boston.com, Councilors heatedly argued over selecting a President and Vice President, two positions previously held by Councilors Robert Maiocco and Frederick Dello Russo, Jr. The pair was up for nomination again for 2013 but some councilors said Maiocco and Dello Russo should not be able to participate in the vote due to state ethics law.

After some procedural moves, the meeting was unable to continue and no new leadership was selected. The Council is supposed to select leadership every year in January.

The agenda will be taken up on Thursday during a special meeting scheduled for 8:15PM at Medford City Hall, according to City Clerk Ed Finn. Items on the agenda include a petition for a common victualler license by Stop and Shop, which was planning on opening its newest store in Medford on Friday in the Salem Street location formerly occupied by Johnnie’s Foodmaster.
