Gas Truck Rolls Over, Spills Fuel, Closes Road

A truck carrying gasoline overturned near the rotary between Medford and Arlington at Mystic Valley Parkway and Medford Street, according to witnesses and published reports.

The road is closed and the Massachusetts State Police said to expect delays for several hours. State Police said Mystic Valley Parkway will be closed for an “unknown duration” and the tanker is still leaking gasoline.

According to YourArlington.com, gasoline was leaking and the fire department and hazardous materials teams were setting up booms to contain the spill, which is running toward the Mystic River.

The Mystic Valley Parkway and Medford Street were closed at 4:30 p.m.

Boston.com reported the driver of the truck was taken to Mass. General Hospital.

It is unknown at this time what caused the accident.

According to a resident, the smell of gasoline in the area was so strong it burned her eyes and throat.
