Medford Schools Announce New Hires

Four open positions have been filled at the Medford Public Schools, according to information released by the district.

Amelia Westmark will replace long-time Guidance Director Frank Howard, who is retiring this year. Westmark has served as a guidance counselor at MHS and was the Greater Boston School Counselor Association’s “School Counselor of the Year” in 2011. She received her Bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from Pacific Lutheran University and has a Master’s of Education degree from Boston University.

Three new assistant principals have been hired for Medford High School. Dave Blauch and Nick Tucci are current employees who are moving into the new positions and Medford resident Gail Treanor, currently an assistant principal at Marblehead High School, will join them.

Blauch was an English teacher at Medford High before becoming a Support Services Specialist. He was the faculty advisor of the Gay-Straight Alliance for nine years. Blauch has a Bachelor of Science degree in English education and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Boston University. He has a Master’s degree in secondary education from Salem State.

Tucci has been a history teacher at MHS since 2007. He graduated from MHS in 2001 and coached the varsity baseball team for three years. He played professional baseball before becoming a teacher. Tucci received a Bachelor’s degree in history and a Master’s degree in education from the University of Connecticut.

Treanor was a Commerce and Technology teacher at Chelsea High School from 2006-2012 and prior to that worked as an instructional technology specialist for the Arlington Public Schools. Ms. Treanor received her Bachelor’s degree in business education from Suffolk University and has a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instructional technology from Framingham State.

Long-time MHS submasters Dan Ross and Rosemary Trainor are retiring at the end of the school year.
